On the morning of April 8, China's Medical Expert Team which consists of 12 members arrived at Yangon international airport. They were welcomed by Chinese ambassador to Myanmar Mr. Chen Hai, Union Minister for Health and Sports of Myanmar(MoHS) Dr. U Myint Htwe, Minister Counsellor of the Embassy Ms.Li Xiaoyan ,Director General of Medical Research Department of MoHS U Zaw Than Htun and Deputy Director General of Protocol Department of Ministry of Foreign Affairs U Zaw Tun Oo.
Chen Hai said that the Chinese government has dispatched this Medical Expert Team to assist the Myanmar side in its fight against the COVID-19, on whose flight also carrying a large amount of medical supplies urgently needed by Myanmar. The Chinese Medical Expert Team has traveled thousands of miles to assist Myanmar. This reflects the profound friendship between China and Myanmar and also explains the spirit of a community with a shared future between the two countries. It is believed that the expert team will carry out effective cooperation with the Myanmar side to provide help for Myanmar in its fight against COVID-19.
Dr. U Myint Htwe expressed his sincere gratitude to China for sending a Medical Expert Team to Myanmar, which has been long awaited by the Myanmar government and its people. China is the first country to effectively control the outbreak of COVID-19, for which we express our admiration. China's experience is worth learning from. We thank China for lending a hand when Myanmar urgently needs help. This is a symbol of the Pauk-Phaw friendship between Myanmar and China. It is hoped that the Chinese Medical Expert Team can provide suggestions on the prevention and control of the outbreak in Myanmar, and the medical teams of both sides will carry out effective cooperation. This time, China will also provide further assistance to Myanmar in terms of laboratory testing equipment, which will help strengthen Myanmar's testing capabilities. It is believed that China's help will enhance Myanmar's capacity for the prevention and control, diagnosis and treatment of COVID-19 and contribute to the early control and defeat of the outbreak.
The Chinese Medical Expert Team is composed of relevant experts from the Yunnan Center for Disease Control and Prevention, the First Affiliated Hospital of Kunming Medical University, and the Yunnan Provincial Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine.The Expert Team carried 5.3 tons of medical materials on the flight to donate to the Myanmar side. After arriving in Myanmar, the Expert Team immediately communicated with the relevant departments of Myanmar and began to assist in the prevention of COVID-19.
