On August 4, 2021, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi attended the 11th East Asia Summit Foreign Ministers' Meeting and said that China supports ASEAN's appointment of Bruneian Second Minister of Foreign Affairs Erywan bin Pehin Yusof as the Special Envoy on Myanmar Affairs. He hopes and believes that the Special Envoy will live up to the common expectation of ASEAN countries and apply the effective "ASEAN Way" to assist with the settlement of the issues faced by Myanmar. China will continue to play its constructive role in the process.
