In proposing a toast, Ambassador Li said that being one of the permanent members of the UN Security Council, China has been revealing its own functioning in world and regional affairs in maintaining world peace and stability as a responsible country. Not long ago in the case of the tsunami and earthquake disaster to countries along the Indian Ocean, almost all the Chinese people were motivated by the Chinese Government to donate for disaster relief work in those affected countries in cooperation with UN agencies and other international organizations like the Red Cross. China actively supports and participates into the work of UN Agencies, while the same spirit and tradition apply to the Chinese Embassy with all the UN agencies here in Myanmar. UN General Coordinator Mr. Charlie J. Petrie thanked the Ambassador on behalf of all other Representatives and praised China to be one important factor of stability in the region and the entire world which has great functions in international and regional affairs. He also expressed the wish to further the cooperation with the Embassy to jointly help Myanmar to enjoy prosperity and development.
