On 3 July, H.E. Mr. Chen Hai, Chinese Ambassador to Myanmar, paid a courtesy call on State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi in Nay Pyi Taw. The two sides exchanged views on bilateral relations and other issues of common interest.

Daw Aung San Suu Kyi welcomed Ambassador Chen to start his tenure in Myanmar. She appreciated China's help in promoting Myanmar's development and peace and China's support on the Rakhine issue. She said that Myanmar attaches great importance to Myanmar-China relations and is willing to develop Pauk-Phaw friendship with China. Myanmar will maintain close high-level contact with China and strengthen exchanges of experience in governance to deliver the benefits of the Belt and Road Initiative and China-Myanmar Economic Corridor, thus improving the well-being of the two countries and two peoples.

Ambassador Chen said that China is Myanmar's good neighbor, partner and Pauk-Phaw brother. We support Myanmar to explore the development path that is in line with its own national conditions and support its efforts in promoting internal peace, national reconciliation, economic development and people's livelihood. Next year marks the 70th anniversary for the establishment of China-Myanmar diplomatic relations. With the guidance of the leaders of the two countries, China is willing to work with Myanmar to promote exchanges in all fields and deepen cooperation on the Belt and Road Initiative and China-Myanmar Economic Corridor. We can jointly build a road for development, people's livelihood and peace, bringing China-Myanmar relations to a new high.
