On April 2nd, the inauguration ceremony for the project titled “Improving Welfare and Safety of Myanmar’s Earthquake-Affected Children” was held in Yangon, supported by the Global Development and South-South Cooperation Fund and implemented by the UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF). Counselor Ouyang Daobing of the Chinese Embassy and Ms. Julia Rees, Deputy Representative of UNICEF in Myanmar, attended the event. Counselor Ouyang Daobing stated that the Chinese Embassy is ready to deepen cooperation with UNICEF to ensure the project will deliver greater results and benefit more children in the affected areas. Ms. Julia Rees expressed appreciation for the support from the Chinese government, stating that UNICEF would maintain close contact with the Chinese Embassy, leverage its strengths, and ensure the project delivers its intended outcomes.
The project aims to provide safe drinking water, sanitation and hygiene supplies, and child protection support to children and families affected by the earthquake in Myanmar. It is expected to benefit approximately 116,000 people.
