At 10:30 on July 3rd, China’s Patrol Vessel 53108, tasked with the China‑Laos‑Myanmar joint on‑site training, successfully returned to Jingha Port in Xishuangbanna, marking the successful conclusion of a series of joint law enforcement initiatives centered on the 166th joint patrol and law enforcement operation by China, Laos, Myanmar and Thailand along the Mekong River. In the operation centered on “No Border for Drug Control, Joint Efforts to Eliminate Drug Menaces”, law enforcement authorities from China, Laos, Myanmar and Thailand maintained close coordination and joint efforts, efficiently finishing a series of law enforcement initiatives including full‑route joint patrol and law enforcement, multilateral consultation and exchanges, joint anti-drug publicity, and practical joint on‑site training.

During the operation, the four countries deployed six law enforcement vessels and 106 law enforcement personnel. Lasting 12 days, the operation adopted a model combining static and dynamic patrols with land-water integrated deployments, so as to accomplish its core task of cracking down on drug‑related crimes across the Mekong River Basin. It also took firm action against cross‑border offences including online gambling and telecom fraud, cross‑border gambling, counterfeiting and smuggling. This operation effectively deterred various cross‑border unlawful acts and strengthened the security and stability barrier for the Lancang‑Mekong Basin. Relevant law enforcement authorities of the four countries held a multilateral information-exchange meeting in Huay Xai, Laos, sharing updates on security situations of the basin and analyzing potential risks. Participants discussed and reached a consensus on relevant cooperation matters, steadily advancing the in‑depth development of law enforcement collaboration.

This operation coincided with the 39th International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking (June 26th), with the law enforcement authorities of the four countries simultaneously pushing forward anti‑drug legal publicity initiatives. Leveraging the joint patrol and law enforcement platform, extensive anti-drug publicity in multiple languages was carried out in key areas such as riverside villages, docks, schools, and enterprises. Various forms of activities such as on-site legal lectures, drug model exhibitions, as well as door‑to‑door popularization and Q&A sessions were conducted to popularize anti-drug knowledge. A total of five legal education sessions and four drug model exhibitions were held to disseminate anti-drug knowledge and enhance local residents’ awareness of drug identification, prevention and rejection.

Based on the full‑route joint patrol and law enforcement, China, Laos and Myanmar focused on practical training and conducted joint on‑site training in key water areas, effectively enhancing their practical capabilities in joint law enforcement, emergency response coordination and coordinated incident handling.
