Launching ceremony of Burmese version of Chinese TV Series A Dream of Red Mansions held in Nay Pyi Taw

       On 12 August, the launching ceremony of Burmese version of Chinese TV Series A Dream of Red Mansions was held in Nay Pyi Taw. Chinese Ambassador to Myanmar H. E. Mr. Chen Hai, Vice Minister of Publicity Department of the Party committee of Guangxi Ghuang Autonomous Region and Director of Guangxi Broadcasting System H. E. Mr. Huang Yu, Union Minister for Information H. E. Dr. Pe Myint, Deputy Minister of information H. E. U Aung Hla Tun, Director general of MRTV U Myo Myint Maung, Burmese writer and translator U Mya Than Tint's wife Daw Khin Ma Ma and son U Phoe Lamin and more than 500 friends attended the ceremony.

      Ambassador Chen Hai said that China and Myanmar are close neighbors enjoying a deep bond of cultural and people-to-people affinity and Pauk-Phaw friendship. Our two countries possess time-honored and splendid cultural treasures which serve as the bond between our two peoples. A Dream of Red Mansions, which represents Chinese classical literature, being translated into dozens of languages including Burmese, English, Russian, Japanese and Korean etc., enjoys great popularity around the world. China and Myanmar’s efforts in dubbing the Chinese TV series A Dream of Red Mansions into Burmese vividly illustrates the profound bond of our cultures and strongly demonstrates our fruitful cooperation in the field of culture.

      Ambassador Chen said that in recent years, China-Myanmar cultural cooperation has been flourishing. Cooperation on radio, television, films and art troupe exchanges between the two countries is advancing, featured by wider range, richer content and more diverse forms. In the context of the joint building of the Belt and Road Initiative and China-Myanmar Economic Corridor, the importance of enhancing culture exchanges and promoting people-to-people bond has been further highlighted. It is high time that we should strengthen China-Myanmar culture exchanges and cooperation.

      Ambassador Chen emphasized that China is willing to strengthen culture exchanges and mutual learning, and promote cooperation with Myanmar in radio, television and publishing. China is willing to continue its assistance in Myanmar's cultural heritage protection projects such as Mrauk U’s application for the World Heritage, promote cooperation on cultural tourism and commercial performance, so as to facilitate development of Myanmar's tourism industry and people's livelihood. China is willing to foster professionals familiar with both cultures by exchanging students and providing training courses. Also China is willing to consolidate the construction of cultural platform and welcome our Myanmar friends to visit Chinese Cultural Center in Yangon. Chinese Embassy in Myanmar will continue to play its role in developing our friendly cultural exchanges.

      Union Minister Dr. Pe Myint addressed that in recent years, Myanmar-China relations maintain a good momentum of development with cooperation flourishing in all fields. The launching of Chinese TV series A Dream of Red Mansions is the fruit of China-Myanmar cultural exchanges and cooperation. On 9 July 2018, at the launching ceremony of Chinese Cartoons column on Myanmar Radio and Television, China and Myanmar made a consensus to dub a number of Chinese classic TV series into Burmese and broadcast them in Myanmar. A Dream of Red Mansions is one of China’s Four Great Classical Novels. Famous Burmese writer and translator U Mya Than Tint translated the novel into Burmese edition. Under the joint efforts of Myanmar Radio and Television and China Guangxi Broadcasting System, the dubbing of the TV series A Dream of Red Mansions was satisfactorily completed and is about to meet with Myanmar audience. I believe it would enjoy popularity among Myanmar people. The Ministry of information of Myanmar would like to take this opportunity to strengthen cooperation with China in Radio and Television, so as to deepen the understanding and friendship between the two peoples.

      Vice Minister and Director Huang Yu said that A Dream of Red Mansions is the greatest classical novel in China. It would surely be loved by Myanmar audience. In recent years, Guangxi Broadcasting System endeavors to expand cooperation with Myanmar in dubbing, broadcasting program exchanges, dispatching staffs, conducting joint interviews and organizing events. We run the program of Chinese TV Series and Chinese Cartoons, initiating a new mode of China-Myanmar media cooperation, which serves as a bridge of friendship between the two countries and a new window for Myanmar people to better understand China.

      After the launching ceremony, guests from the two sides visited Burmese Dubbing Station jointly set up by Guangxi Broadcasting System and Myanmar Radio and Television and watched the dubbing at the scene and communicated with the working staff.

      Burmese version of A Dream of Red Mansions has been broadcasting on Myanmar Radio Television in prime time every night since 12 August.
