On May 6, Ambassador Chen Hai exchanged views with Deputy Union Minister for Planning, Finance and Industry U Set Aung on promoting China-Myanmar cooperation. They had in-depth discussions on the implementation of the outcomes of President Xi Jinping’s visit to Myanmar, China-Myanmar cooperation on COVID-19 pandemic prevention and control while pushing forward economic development, and the next-step development of Yangon New City, KyaukPhyu Deep-Sea Port and Industrial Zone as well as China-Myanmar Border Economic Cooperation Zone based on the COVID-19 Economic Relief Plan released by the Myanmar government.

Both sides agreed that recently China and Myanmar have carried out effective cooperation on prevention and control of the COVID-19 pandemic. Due to the pandemic, the downward pressure on the global and regional economy is increasing. It is necessary for China and Myanmar to strengthen cooperation to implement the consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries and advance the building of the China-Myanmar Economic Corridor, so as to promote the economic development of the two countries and improve people’s livelihood, and in a joint effort to build a China-Myanmar community with a shared future.
