China's Guangdong Eyes Closer Links with Myanmar

A senior official from south China's Guangdong Province expressed strong desire for closer economic and trade ties with Myanmar during a recent visit.

Ms. Shao Yufang, Vice Provincial Governor of Guangdong was in Myanmar from 14 to 16 December with a delegation of business leaders.

Ms. Shao attended a travel mart, a bilateral meeting between entrepreneurs of Myanmar and China and witnessed the signing of a MOU on furthering the friendly cooperation between the two sides. The signing was also witnessed by Mr.Yang Houlan, the Chinese Ambassador and senior officials from UMFCCI.

"Guangdong will further promote the practical cooperation with Myanmar in the areas of trade, tourism and agriculture. We will encourage well-established companies to invest in these areas as well as manufacturing and infrastructure. We would like to contribute to the development of our bilateral friendship," Ms. Shao said.
